Ballet Initiative

 Ballet INITIATIVE is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to raise the profile of dance in the Saint Louis community through preservation, promotion and the presentation of affordable exposure and access to quality ballet. We teach students to dance, help them excel in dance and educate the public about ballet in an effort to help sustain the art form for generations to come. Ballet INITIATIVE strives to make the art of ballet accessible, understood, supported and enjoyed by our community.

Summer Intensive 2015: June 15-26

Join BI for this two-week summer intensive, featuring world-renowned artists teaching in an intimate learning environment. This program is for intermediate to advanced students ages 12-19 years old. Some exceptions may be made. Classes will include ballet, pointe, variations, partnering, character, contemporary, modern, jazz, Pilates, dance history and injury prevention. Students will take 15-17 classes each week of the program.

Featuring guest faculty: 

Ellen Costanza- Former Principal and founding member of Cleveland San Jose Ballet, ballet mistress with Saint Louis Ballet

Jennifer Welch Cudnik- BI director, former ballerina with Pennsylvania Ballet and Principal with Saint Louis Ballet

Katie Croghan- B.A. in Dance Pedagogy, former teacher at Princeton Ballet School

Lynnette Khoo-Summers- Injury Prevention- PT, DPT at Washington University School of Medicine

Keith Tyrone Williams- Award-winning actor and choreographer, one of the few teachers certified by Katherine Dunham to teach the Dunham Technique

Shannon West- Freelance choreographer, former dancer with Cedar Lake II, former resident choreographer with Missouri Contemporary Ballet

Mary Ellen Bryan - Pilates instructor

Krista Roy- Jazz teacher and choreographer

The program will be held at Dimensions Dance Center in Saint Louis.

Tuition for the two week program is $400, plus a $15 registration fee. One week’s tuition is $225, plus a $15 registration fee. A non-refundable deposit of 50% is due with your registration. This applies ONLY to students registering for both weeks. The remaining balance is due no later than June 1, 2015. If you are planning to attend for one week, you must pay the entire amount.
